Heart Compass

From the Podcast: ………..”One of the terms Sandra uses throughout the book and while facilitating the expressive arts activities is “Heart Compass” which is a colorful way of saying: check in and notice how you feel. This term is a coined phrase for her trademarked training program, Creative Rhythms. She teaches the facilitator how to guide the activities and introduces the heart compass as a self assessment tool. “

HEART COMPASS DEFINED:

Imagine you have a Heart Compass within you. It doesn't point North, South, East, or West, but inwards – to your own heart. Think of your Heart Compass as your internal guide, powered by your feelings. Heart Compass is a term I use to describe our innate ability to navigate our inner world through feeling, especially during expressive arts activities. If an activity brings a sense of well-being, joy, or calm – that's your Heart Compass pointing you towards what resonates with your authentic self. Follow that feeling.Using the heart as a compass is a practice that is cultivated by taking mindful pauses to check in with ourselves – 'Notice how you feel, take a deep breath.' These words are repeated often by the facilitator during expressive arts events as a way of engaging the heart compass. When engaged in creative flow, your feelings act as a Heart Compass.  Positive feelings like joy, peace, or energized focus signal that you're moving in a direction that is beneficial and authentic for you.  It’s a practice of self-trust: if it feels good, keep following that compass heading.
