Meet Brooke
Brooke Schmedicke
Your LAC Teacher!
Brooke brings a wealth of experience and a contagious enthusiasm for creativity, promising to inspire artists of all ages.
From Syracuse, New York, Brooke’s artistic journey led them to Temple University’s Tyler School of Art, where they earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting and Drawing in the spring of 2022. Brooke's undergraduate work is a testament to their dedication to the human figure, seamlessly interwoven with the organic elements of nature. Through a diverse palette of acrylics, oils, watercolors, and fibers, Brooke masterfully explores the transformative power of color and texture within mediums.
A Passion for the Figure and the Familiar
Brooke’s fascination with the figure extends beyond mere representation; it’s an exploration of memory and connection. "My art explores familiar faces," Brooke shares, "particularly family members. Working from photographs, I capture an element of memory and intimacy, a way to feel closer to the subject." This intimate approach is amplified by Brooke's bold use of color, where hues are not merely applied, but transformed. "I like exploring with bright colors and using a range of different hues," Brooke explains. "It's about how I can use color to transform the painting into a new experience for the viewer."
The Tactile World of Fiber
One of Brooke's unique passions lies in the realm of fiber art. "My favorite thing about working with fibers is being able to use the material like paint" they reveal. This innovative approach allows for sculpting and texturing in ways that traditional painting alone cannot achieve, opening up a world of possibilities for artistic expression.
Excitement for Liverpool Art Center
Brooke is eager to bring their unique vision and expertise to Liverpool Art Center. "I am very excited about designing workshops and sharing my love for mediums that we could dive deeper into at the studio, like the fiber workshops coming soon (stay tuned!)," Brooke enthuses. "I love how you can “paint” and sculpt with fiber, exploring different textures and outcomes." Brooke is passionate about cross-medium exploration, believing that the interplay between various techniques can lead to unexpected and delightful artistic discoveries.
Join us in welcoming Brooke Schmedicke to the Liverpool Art Center family! We look forward to the inspiring and innovative workshops they will bring to our community.
Cultivating Creative Communities
Brooke's dedication to teaching is deeply rooted in generations of educators. "I come from generations of teachers, my grandparents were both art teachers and my father teaches anatomy," Brooke says, "and I feel like the passion for teaching is ingrained in who I am." This passion translates into a commitment to fostering creative communities, spaces where artists can inspire and learn from one another. "I love fostering that community with like-minded creatives," Brooke explains, "there is beauty in exploring a sense of creativity and allowing that light to shine so that people feel passionate about creating and exploring materials."
Beyond traditional instruction, Brooke embraces playful and improvisational techniques, incorporating games and imaginary play into the art studio. This approach, honed through experiences like supervising and creating engaging programs for the youth, particularly in her experience as a facilitator for after-school and outdoor summer programs, guarantees that learning is engaging and accessible. "It's about immersing individuals in the experience," Brooke emphasizes.
